Mary Hobbs is a local business owner in East Tennessee with 18 years of experience in tax preparation, managing cash flow, training, and marketing. She and her husband, Chris, have been searching for a ministry that comes alongside local churches and missionaries who are advancing the kingdom of God while being sensitive to local needs of addressing poverty, both material and spiritual. Locally, they work with Street Hope TN, a ministry dedicated to stopping human trafficking. Globally, Mary and Chris invest in Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) which ministers to the persecuted Church, IRIS Global which ministers to children living in the poorest parts of the world, and in We Ignite Nations (WIN), an organization dedicated to sustainable solutions in Asia for overcoming poverty and human trafficking using micro-financing as a catalyst for community empowerment while proclaiming Jesus Christ.
Mary has a deep conviction we are all commanded by the Great Commission and following Jesus' example, which often involves meeting physical and material needs while sharing Christ. She was attracted to A.W.A.K.E. International Ministries because it advances the Kingdom through partnering with local indigenous churches, boots-on-the-ground missionaries, and other Christ-centered organizations that understand the local culture, language, and community needs. A.W.A.K.E. is also powered by prayer, a focus on finding where God is working and joining Him in His work by creating business opportunities that not only lift a family out of poverty but create a ripple effect that lifts the whole community. Working alongside the local people, A.W.A.K.E. facilitates the creation of sustainable solutions to meet the temporal material needs of the community, keep families together, and honor the dignity of the people we minister to, with the ultimate goal of meeting their eternal spiritual needs as we invite them to a relationship with Jesus Christ. She can hardly wait to see what God is going to do!
